Chobe Chilwero

Location:

Sanctuary Chobe Chilwero borders the Chobe National Park, which is the second largest national park in Botswana, covering an area of 10,566 km² and home to Africa’s largest numbers of elephants. This spectacular getaway rests above the Chobe River, giving guests the ultimate panoptic views, from tufted islands to game darting about the floodplains. See it all the way to the far reaches of the horizon, where Namibia begins.

The Lodge:

The communal regions of the lodge include a decadent lounge and dining room, where thatched ceilings meet the austere glow of African chandeliers and the eggshell-shell white walls create a distinguished home in the midst of the rustic wilderness,   linked to the outside by the viewing patios. Chobe Chilwero is also the only safari lodge in Botswana where you will find a complete spa, offering a range of treatments from both the Thalgo and Africology ranges. The lodge also boasts a tiered swimming pool, library, curio shop and a communications centre.

Each of Sanctuary Chobe Chilwero’s 14 cottages is cosy in size and has its own en-suite bathroom with contemporary trimmings worked into the freestanding bath, indoor and outdoor showers, private garden with hammock and private balcony. The rooms are prepared with delicate fabric of mosquito nets, ceiling fans, air-conditioning and coffee stations for guests to use freely.

Although guests of all ages are welcome and children hold a special place in the lodge’s heart, the final accommodation on offer is not for kids. The Honeymoon Suite was designed for romance. From dining under the stars to sipping drinks in the crystal clear pool, to private safari’s with your exclusive guide and vehicle, nothing is spared in turning your moments into magic.

Activities and Wildlife:

Chobe National Park is renowned for its elephants and abundance of dramatic sable and roan antelopes. Rare sitatunga with their splayed feet that run on swamps and their predators, the wild dog and lion, are often seen. The lush riverfront region is home to giraffe, sable and Cape buffalo, and is the only place in Botswana where Puku antelope can be spotted. In the savannah, zebra, wildebeest, warthog, impala and kudu are plentiful.

Highly qualified professional guides lead thrilling twice daily game drives in open-sided 4X4 vehicles, where you’ll witness enormous elephants jostling about in their natural environment.  You can also enjoy motorised boat safaris and in the late afternoon or sip on refreshing sundowners whilst watching the African sun set in all its glorious hues on the Sundowner Cruise. As many as 18 travellers fit on the Photographic Safari Cruise. The new safari boat, with swivel seats that have a full rotation, offers two decks for different angles to capture that perfect shot. Here you’ll satisfy your hunger with sumptuous breakfast and lunches whilst you work.
