Laikipia is a wide plateau the enjoys an interdependant relationship with the Ewaso Nyiro River, Abedrdare Mountains and Mount Kenya.  It has no national parks as yet and is the only place in Africa where wildlife numbers are on the increase. Made up of community owned ranches, large private farms and game conservancies, it has a very diverse landscape and some of the finest lodgeas and camp in East Africa.  This area is also very good for wild dog sightings.

Region – Masai Mara

The Mara ecosystem is divided into regions that reflect different conservation areas.  The Masai Mara National Reserve is a large game reserve in south-western Kenya and is effectively the northern continuation of the Serengeti National Park Tanzania. The Masai Mara is famous for its exceptional population of Big Cats, game and the annual migration of zebra, Thomson’s gazelle and the wildebeest from the Serengeti every year from July to October.  The migration is so immense that it is called the Great Migration.

The Samburu Reserve consists of Buffalo Springs, Samburu and Shaba.  There are many remarkable hills and mountains in the long stretches north of Mount Kenya – the Samburu Hills are a feature of Shaba’s landscape and sacred Ol Lolokwe.  These hills and mountains provide different vegetation so there is a rich mix of animals to see on their flanks and migrating between them.
