Camp Xakanaxa

Resting on the banks of the Khwai River, within the Xakanaxa Lagoon, prepare to discover the Moremi Game Reserve’s prized camp. Pronounced “Ka-ka-na-ka”, Xakanaxa is ideally placed in the perennial heart of the Okavango Delta, permitting the water safari experience of a lifetime, any time of year.

The Camp

From the second your feet land on Xakanaxa’s fertile soil, there’s a feeling of arriving home. The smiles, affectionate service and warm atmosphere permeate into every corner of the camp. The main edifice is built on a raised platform, extending into a fire-deck that towers high over the Khwai River for splendid views of the landscape, day or night. Each of the structures have been built with the supplies of the land; reed, thatch and local timber. The extravagant lounge and dining rooms contain a cosy library, sparkling pool, wide deck and sala with day beds.

12 ample canvas Safari Tents meet the needs of up to 24 guests, in traditional old-world furnishings. These Meru-style quarters hold toilets, hand basins and en-suite showers. Each tent has its own secluded viewing deck with comfortable recliners, facing out into the majestic Xakanaxa Lagoon.

Activities and Wildlife

The Delta’s grasslands, flowing water channels and forests produce an abundance of seasonal shifts and changes, but the consistency of the land makes it exceptional for animal and plant life alike. Guests are guaranteed water and land safaris at any time of year, in powerboats and 4×4 vehicles respectively. Your certified guides are experts in their field and will joyfully share their insight into this complex land. While bird lovers will be delirious with the variety of breeding migrants, guests will have their eyes indulging in elephant, hyena, hippo, giraffe, wildebeest, lion, leopard and kudu, at every turn.
