Angama Mara

Built high up above the Great Rift Valley, Angama Mara looks down upon the fertile grounds of Africa’s most prized reserve – The Maasai Mara. Here the wild animals are as bountiful as the picturesque landscapes itself and both will leave you captivated. With an exclusive airstrip, it’s the ideal option for the discerning guest travelling from afar.

The Lodge

With a deck and fire pit that overlooks the land from a vantage that dwarfs trees and animals alike, each of your glances will touch the horizon in almost every direction. Imaginatively built with brick, glass walls and touches of wood, Angama Mara draws its architectural inspiration from Nairobi’s Muthaiga Club, featured in the film Out of Africa.

The lodge’s main area is one building, perimetered by towering glass walls that bring the outside in. Each space inside has been separated through internal brick columns of every size and shape, that change the floor levels and burst into the roof’s design like the Maasai warriors during their jumping rituals.

There is no designated dining or lounge area, but rather a combination of each and everything, where every nook is a place where guests can decide to sip on a drink or sit for a moment of quiet reflection. With library, fitness centre, pavilion and infinity pools draped in the crimson fabrics the Maasai are renowned for, there is no better experience of imagination, elegance and rugged African charm on earth more enticing than Angama Mara.

Carefully distributed throughout the tree-lined hillside, the expansive, tented suites hold striking views of Kenya’s Maasai Mara from sunrise to sunset and the shimmering night sky beyond that. With three sides of olive canvas and ample space in design, each suite holds a lounge area, en-suite facilities and a bed that faces out into the magnificent vistas.

From the parquet floors to the scarlet fabric furnishings and textured designs, each area of your suite exudes charm and vibrancy. The canvas walls and brass features add an element of discretion and class that will leave you free to explore the wonders of this celebrated environment. A personal butler service is on hand to serve you your morning breakfast, should desire to stay in and admire the view.

Activities and Wildlife

Adventure, or relaxation and peace will fill each day, as per your requirements. The activities are customised to your liking with hot air ballooning, photographic game drives, visits to the local Maasai community and bush walks to the Great Rift Valley, to name a few.

However, if you’re looking for something far more rejuvenating, massage and spa treatments are a firm favourite.

Sunsets will never be the same again, with the Maasai warriors exciting guests with their cultural dances. Watch these warriors spring higher and higher into the night sky with a dazzling skill that is almost confused for magic. Whether you’re in the mood to do something spectacular or nothing at all, staff, guides and massage therapists will honour each one of your preferences at Angama Mara.
