Ol Pejeta

Location

Ol Pejeta Bush Camp is one of the premier bush experiences of the Ol Pejeta Conservancy. It lies at the foot of the Aberdares with thrilling views of Mount Kenya. The Ewaso Nyiro River separates the camp from a salt lick favoured by game in the area. This is the reason why wildlife viewing is common at any time of day or night at this simple bush camp.

Accommodation

The camp’s two main communal areas overlook the Ewaso Nyiro River. At night, the campfire lights up the opposite bank, where glimpses of lions, leopards and rhinos lapping at the water are a scene of quiet enjoyment. The dining area is where most meals are served, whilst the lounge tent is decked with comfortable armchairs where guests can unwind in the cool, open air.

The 6 tented suites are spacious and open, bringing in views from each window through which to glimpse the surroundings. Comfortable beds, stone floors, Persian rugs and timbered-decking create a charisma that is authentic in the deepest African sense. The en-suite bathrooms have hot-bucket showers and flushing toilets. Solar powered lighting keeps the richness of the darkness outside the abodes.

Wildlife and Activities

Not only will you encounter the big five and other popular game during your stay, but also many more of the animals endemic to the Ol Pejeta Conservancy. These include beisa, oryx and Boran cattle to name a few. However, Ol Pejeta is proud of its conservation, and this area is one of the biggest black Rhino sanctuaries left on earth.

Game drives, led by the experience of knowledgeable guides and trackers, take you deeper into the bush, in search of its secrets. Prepare to feel the roar of a lion vibrate through you and hear the ground come alive with the thundering rumble of a herd of game galloping away from predators. Night drives and walking safaris deliver a completely unique experience of the land, taking you from the shade of ancient acacia trees to the foot of the towering Mount Kenya.

Lion tracking is an exhilarating activity that teaches you all about these magnificent cats, whilst your armed guard keeps you safe. Visits to the Chimpanzee Sanctuary, local villages and endangered species initiatives will offer an education on the region that is bound to have it etched into your heart. No matter what you’re looking for Ol Pejeta Bush Camp has it all, and more.
