Matemwe Lodge

Location

The quiet beaches of Matemwe hail in the north-eastern stretches of Zanzibar island. Opposite the Mnemba Atoll Reefs, the area is a haven for snorkelers and divers. With Zanzibar airport only 75 minutes away, its easily accessible to all travellers.

Accommodation

Island vibrancy lives in every corner of this electric blue lodge. The infinity pools, hot tub and expansive deck overlook the Indian Ocean, where the sailboats drift lazily among the coral pockets. Take a siesta in a hammock, rocking away your afternoon, or walk through the evergreen gardens amongst the chalets. Your choices are endless.

The 12 chalets are marvels of modern architecture, marrying comfort and decadence with traditional African island touches. The air-conditioned suites have two floors with high thatched ceilings and stone floors, where 4 post beds are bookmarked between wooden-shuttered windows. The royal blue sofa looks out into the ocean, between tall palm trees, where the sun will eventually set, igniting the waters of the Indian Ocean.

Wildlife & Activities

With a gambit of water and land based activities available, prepare to be spoiled for choice. Enjoy the carefree living of island life with a walk along the reef, snorkelling and diving into the translucent waters of the Indian Ocean. Or take a tour of the Jozani forest. Alternatively, visits to the local village, Stone Town and a Dhow trip offer excellent opportunities to learn more about Zanzibar. The choices are yours, and so are the memories you’ll keep from each one of these unforgettable experiences.
