Chiawa Camp



This award-garnering camp lies along the Zambezi River, within the fertile Lower Zambezi National Park. Kept fresh under the eaves of ancient Mahogany trees, Chiawa is as idyllic as it is peaceful. The Camp

Whether you’re enjoying a meal in the refreshing, open space of the dining veranda, sight-seeing game in the viewing deck, or dining on a sumptuous meal in the lounge area, each of Chiawa’s facilities will meet your daily needs. Cool off in the swimming pool before drying off on the sundeck, where your eye can roam the land and its animals, unimpeded.

Each of the 9 Suites has varnished, timber flooring, exquisitely decorated for comfort, space and solitude. Elegant fabrics drape over a four post bed, swathed in Egyptian cotton linens, facing an open, panoramic view of the bush beyond your doors. Create your memoirs at the old mahogany desk, or unwind in the shade of your personal couch. Take your evening bath in full view of the mighty Zambezi River, where you’re bound to see hippos floating by. Or choose the privacy of indoor bathing, with only the sounds of the wild as your companion.

Tents 1 through 8 were designed with the intention of space, form and functionality. These face out onto the dry Chowe riverbed, where you can peruse footprints to tell the evening’s visitors to the camp. Here arm-chair game viewing is commonplace, with the areas animals constantly moving through the riverbed. Artisans reconstructed Tent 9 in 2010. It provides an unparalleled vista of the Zambezi River, exclusive dining area, a unique outdoor bathroom and a veranda with day beds. The first sight will leave you breathless, but as the evening unfolds and the lanterns are lit, the golden glow that casts out onto the trees, the deck and the pearl walls of the tent, will steal your heart away.

Activities and Wildlife

By way of the unique shape and texture of the escarpment, guests experience a safari that is as unique as it is challenging. With patience the fruits of your viewing range from secretive leopard to the more common buck, elephant and rhino. This is the quintessential home of the wildlife, and what you see here will thrill your senses.

Expect a range of land as well as water-based activities, from land and water safaris to canoeing expeditions along the humbling Zambezi River.
