Ruckomechi Camp

Location

Watch the elephant’s somnambulant, head-bobbing walk as they make their way to drink from the banks of the Zambezi, a stone’s throw from where you sit. It’s here, in a private concession in the Mana Pools National Park that the animals meet the broad flow of the river under the canopy of acacia and mahogany trees that have long called this place home.

Lodge and Accommodation

With a lounge, dining area and sparkling pool that all face out onto the view of the nearby ridge, you’ll always be a glance away from seeing something incredible at Ruckomechi Camp. Evenings come to life at the fire deck, where camp stories and the unfolding night sky are a pleasure you’ll need to experience to believe.

Each of the ten expansive tented suites, including something big enough for families, hold décor that enhances the space, light and comfort for each guest. With en-suite bathroom facilities and decks facing out onto the Zambezi River, you’ll be in the lap of luxury within the rustic confines of Africa.

Activities and Wildlife

With its high numbers of buffalo and elephant, Ruckomechi Camp offers a new perspective on these powerful mammals. Most of the big cats are constantly roaming the land, with leopard, cheetah and lion regular visitors to the area. The buck, giraffe and zebra they chase are equally fond of the plains.

Game rangers take guests out into the concession in the early morning or late afternoon, and sometimes evening game drives. It’s here that you’ll have all your curiosities answered and pick up the scent of the passing wildlife, feeling the earth rumble as they leave dust in their tracks.

River cruises along the Zambezi, nature walks in the safer parts of the concession, along with catch-and-release fishing offer guests some extraordinary activities to try during their stay. The Star Bed allows you to see just how the Milky Way was viewed eons ago, falling asleep with a million stars on your face. Birding is another favourite, with a plethora of species available for bird-lovers to spot and tick off their lists.
