There are so many game lodges and camps in the travel industry that it becomes difficult to work with all of them.  Ngwe Safari has handpicked a selection of game lodges and camps in the most sought after and beautiful parts of  South Africa.  Over the years we have built up good relationships with these properties and assure our Valued Clients quality, excellent game viewing and a memorable stay.

Region – Lowveld, Mpumalanga

Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve

The Sabi Sand is a private game reserve, situated west of The Kruger National Park.  The reserve is an approximate    63 000 hectares and is renowned for some of the best game viewing in Africa. The Sabi Sand Reserve is not officially part of the Kruger, however, shares a long unfenced border with Kruger National Park, thus ensuring that animals can roam freely between the two reserves.

The Sabi Sand includes of a number of private game reserves, each providing  a luxury and exclusive experience.  The Sabi Sand is not open to the general public, unlike the Kruger Park, therefore staying at one of the lodges means that you are sharing this incredible bushveld only with guests staying at one of the other lodges who each have exclusive traversing rights over a particular area. Furthermore, staying at one of the lodges allows your Ranger to drive off road tracking wildlife and you can enjoy a morning guided walking safari!

The reserve is home to a large concentration of wildlife, bird species as well at the “Big Five”!  Staying at either one of our listed game lodges in the Sabi Sand, will offer you an incredible game viewing experience!

Thornybush Private Game Reserve

The Thornybush Game Reserve is a 11 500 hectare reserve near Hoedpruit. It borders the Kapama Game Reserve and is located close to the Timbavati and Kruger Park.  The Reserve offers prime game viewing opportunities and is home to Africa’s Big Five and an abundance of bird and other mammal species.

The Reserve has is host to beautiful and luxury game lodges and camps.  Your stay is exclusive as general public are not allowed to traverse on this reserve.  Only guests staying at one of the lodges in the Thornybush Reserve will enjoy  game drives and bush walks in this pristine bushveld.

Timbavati Private Nature Reserve

The Timbavati is located to the north of the Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve and forms park of the greater

Kruger Park Ecosystem.  The reserve is an approximate 53 000 hectares and offers beautiful and luxurious game lodges in the wild bushveld.  Enjoy exclusive game drives and bushwalks during your stay at one of the lodges situated in the reserve.

The Timbavati is host to a large concentration Africa’s game, bird life, “The Big Five” and the white lion. White lions have a recessive gene causing the coats to be snow white (though not albino).  An interesting note is that all white lions world wide are ancestrally linked to the white lions of the Timbavati!

Kruger National Park Private Concession

The world renowned Kruger National Park offers a wildlife experience that ranks with the best in Africa.  Established in 1898 to protect the wildlife of the South African Lowveld, this national park of nearly 2 million hectares, SanParks – Kruger National Park is unrivalled in the diversity of its life forms and a world leader in advanced environmental management techniques and policies.  Truly the flagship of the South African National Parks, Kruger is home to an impressive number of species – 336 trees, 49 fish, 34 amphibians, 114 reptiles, 507 birds and 147 mammals.

It is here that in certain parts of Kruger, private concessions have been leased out to companies who have established a private safari operation.  Beautiful and luxurious lodges are built in these concessions and offer the same experience as those in the private reserves like Sabi Sands etc.  These private concessions are only available to guests staying at the lodges and are not open to the public.  Staying at one of these lodges gives you the opportunity to visit the heart of the Kruger National Park.

Region – North West Province

Madikwe Game Reserve

The Madikwe Game Reserve is situated close to the Botswana border and a three hours’ drive from both Johannesburg and Pretoria.  Now one of South Africa’s prime safari destinations Madikwe Game Reserve is home to 66 large mammal species including the Big Five and approximately 300 resident and migrant bird species.

The reserve consists of vast plains of open woodlands and grasslands, dissected by the rugged Rant van Tweedepoort, and bordered in the south by the Dwarsberg Mountains. The area is dotted with huge rocky hills.  Excellent accommodation is available at various private lodges in the reserve and no visitors are allowed unless you are staying at one of the lodges which makes your game viewing experiences exclusive to lodge residents only.

 Region – Kwa Zulu Natal

From the heights of the uKhahlamba Drakensberg Park World Heritage Site, through the tropical savannahs of Zululand where the Big 5 inhabit Hluhluwe Imfolozi Park, and on to the brilliant coral reefs of the Indian Ocean that fringe the lakes and wetlands of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park World Heritage Site. Kwazulu National Province, the northern part of the Elephant Coast, Part of the Unescc World Heritage site, St Lucia Wetlands Park now known as Isimangaliso Wetland Park – an ecotourism Mecca of the Zulu Kingdom.  A varied wildlife and “Big Five” experience.

 Region – Eastern Cape

The Eastern Cape boasts a wealth of flora and fauna, including the “Big Five” (elephant, lion, leopard, rhino and buffalo) in a malaria-free environment. Conservation areas include the Mountain Zebra National Park and the Addo Elephant National Park. The coastal waters are rich in marine life, abundant with dolphins and the occasional whale spotted from the beaches.
